I remember sparkling bodies of water and dazzling destinations –
I remember sand dunes that stretched for days and resembled the Appalachians –
I remember long, never-ending drives that always landed us somewhere profound –
Even though the complaints from us kids was enough to make anyone turn around.

Growing older makes me even more appreciative of what I had then –
You always loved taking us places that we had never been.
I wish I had soaked up every last moment and cared less about the trivial instead.
If I could go back in time, I would tell you each day what I should have said then…

Dad – there is no man quite like you, or will there ever be –
And just because I didn’t say it before only means I couldn’t yet see…
That you stand for so many brilliant and amazing things –
It was always you and mom that pushed us to strive for our dreams.

You always knew us to be better than we saw ourselves,
You were always right about our shortcomings and when we needed help.
And just because I didn’t always listen to you or take your advice,
Doesn’t mean, not in the slightest, that I didn’t silently know you were right.

I just think it took some time for me to see what I actually had –
A wonderfully exquisite man, and best friend, who is also my incredible dad.
I wouldn’t dare give up what we share today, nor take a trade for the world in exchange.
I can’t rewrite history or erase past days, for all I can do is start with a fresh, new page.

Their destiny was always written in the stars –
Thus fated to meet since the beginning of creation.
Once each divine soul ultimately greets its counterpart,
They travel amid nighttime skies, flirting with constellations.

It would come as no surprise if the stars had a final say
In mine and your unparalleled friendship.
My entire being screams that the night consulted the day
Before agreeing upon such an infinite companionship.

At dusk, we comprise of the stars and moon above,
Waiting to make way for a potential meteor shower.
Come dawn, we rise as the sun with gleaming rays of love,
Projecting our light downward upon the blooming flowers.

Just like the night and day, we go hand in hand effortlessly
With one comes the other, bringing about a genuine unity.
We each play off the other, working together flawlessly
And the world has a plan for us – to be revealed eventually.

No one could possibly dare to compare to the lingering stare I cherish each and every moment, so rare. I assume my life would remain bare had he never entered into our perfect pair.

I always thought two never seemed quite complete and yet three manages to reach such a feat with sheer and utter ease.

I bleed for him now – through and through. Not sure what I would do without him around – always so lost, I now somehow feel found…a sense of belonging.

Never knew this would end up being precisely what I was forever longing. A new melody to my song – a new challenge to increase my strong – who would have thought that my life wasn’t right until I found it to be all wrong.

Now I know why I live and breathe each day – seizing each ray of sunlight merely to please this little one’s life. Everything about him is right and now I must strive to keep him alive – aiming to add color to his black and white, providing light on his darkest nights and fabricating stars when there aren’t any in sight.

And when all else fails and the wind is relentlessly battling the sails, I will fight! Fight for him each day and night.

Romantic, brown eyes consistently consume my vision –
Seeming to be insistent on never assuming what I envision,
Which leaves me persistent in presuming he’ll avoid this collision.

I am not here to bring about incisions, and yet I fear I ring loud with indecision.
I wish I could be clear in my every ambition, but I sing only to select ears with a distinct precision.

I used to sink in tears in hopes of a dramatic revision –
A rewrite to the fable that is my life…
…So I, alone, could write to disable every ounce of strife.

This pen cuts the night like a knife to show life in all aspects,
But the sight of what “just might be” seems so drastic.
Still, I hold tight to the light that withholds my own fanatic,
For losing grip in spite of what’s right could make this fantastic.

I grow spastic thinking thoughts that ought to be infamous poetry to date,
So I unravel the elastic on a heart bound in plastic and reminisce on boundless fate.
Lately, my emotions choose to gravitate while my guard slowly dissipates –
Fate may be devotion past used, but the cards I hold in plain view take the cake.

I play to see notions of the true you to anticipate, so I lay down hearts at any rate –
I’ll stay swimming in this ocean of pure blue for my sake even if various parts are far from innate.

Wave after wave has consistently brought me down,
But my path is now paved with flowers I’ve found.
It pays to wait for the showers that sprinkle the ground,
For future days and its hours will tower amongst twinkling stars all around –
Shining down upon two souls within their favorite nighttime sounds.

I was thinking of you
Your face
Your smile

I started sinking out of view
Out of place
Every once in a while

After piecing together images of you
Before you were erased
Before my final exile

I turned into something we both never knew
An aspect replaced
Set aside to mourn later denial

I sat as a mere illusion
A past phase
A life already had

I needed an intrusion
A nudge on my days
A smile that wasn’t sad

I heeded to my own confusion
Needing a shove in my ways
Armored with a heart fully clad

I embraced the inevitable fusion
The unspoken phrase
The desirable amount of bad

I remain as a ghost
A spirit in your days
A breeze behind your ear

I’m an absent host
Your sunshine without rays
Although I still manage to sear

I’m gone the most
With emotions at bay
And every wave a potential tear

I don’t mean to boast
But my notions create a maze
Leaving most who enter in constant fear

As Wretched As They Come…

 

Here’s a sight for sore eyes – he simply disappears deep into the torrents of the night – to the point where my fright almost doesn’t seem right. Why fight for you when my sight fixated upon you has diminished? Wait – don’t interrupt – I’m not even close to being finished.

 

If I wanted a second helping I’d gladly replenish, but I no longer beckon for something causing today’s kind of menace. Your very existence has become its own nasty blemish, and I’m armed and ready to defend against my new and improved arch nemesis.

 

I feel the need to march straight up to the hate you’ve created, and face you straight on -
yelling at you at an alarming rate,
shedding my most charming of traits,
screaming to your face the saddest story, a tale of your own awful fate.

Come to think of it, it has left me quite parched, I’d say.

 

I’ll drink down this large amount of your hazy daze with complete and utter haste, then charge right back up to you once more but just enough to fill up my plate. I’m never too late for a second serving of lost faith – I’ll take what I can get. Even if it’s just a tiny bit – whatever can add more shit to the bottomless pit you call home.

 

I’d say I’ve set the tone, no? Now go ahead and crawl back to your hole, dragging along with you that pathetic thing you call a soul. I now see my fantastic yet drastic actions have finally taken their toll, so I’ll leave you be in your own misery to console what’s left of a heart that’s less than half full.

All the way back to the very beginning of my life
When everything was bright and brimming with light
When I lost all inhibitions within the sinning and the strife
Even though I knew that winning was so far from right

Back then there wasn’t a care in the world up top
My head was filled with dares, and my eyes with cops
The trouble kept me lively, though mildly impaired
Yet the light burning inside of me, was enough to be shared

At one point, I could spread the entire world with my love
Or, better yet, all of the dread consuming my head up above
I was a ticking time bomb, ready to shred the world up
After all, it was I who said when enough was enough

I once walked these hazy streets like a rat in its own crazy maze
Every crack and corner had deeds and feats that I once raced
A piece of me was left behind that day, while the rest walked away
In a complete and utter daze, I turned my back on this maddened phase

I walked away that day and never even thought to look back
I knew the sky was crumbling behind me as I followed a new path
I still stayed looking straight – never wavering in my timing or tact
Instead, I pushed forward toward the inevitable door of my unsworn pact

I regularly lurk down deceptively dark hallways in a dragging sort of fashion,
Simply coasting from one state of mind to the next, each rarely disparate.
Though I know my every day is overplayed, I stay for my passion -
Clinging tightly, almost pathetically, to the worst of words I’ve managed to inherit.

I somewhat float along these long, endless corridors of captivity,
Seemingly lingering at random while others remain incognizant.
I could trip, stumble and fall, giving into the cold, hard gravity -
I’d put paper on the sad truth that those around would remain incompetent.

If I could completely let go, wiggling my fingers to loosen my staunch grasp,
I’d close my eyes ever so tightly and willingly give myself to Physics.
Allowing my head to fill with the sweet melodies of lullabies from the past -
I’d let the world envelop me whole while embracing the musical mystic.

I never seem to leave this sleep state at wake -
I’m like a slow moving ship battling each wave.
I second-guess my every action, seeing each as irreparable mistakes,
Although I take those lessons in stride, hoping for my soul to be saved.

I often lose myself in the moment, reveling in what have you,
Never knowing where I’m truly going – just basically biding my time.
I live from one day to the next – grasping for something, anything true -
Therefore, I strayed from the everyday only to find you, my latest reason to rhyme.

He moved me like the winds of Mother Nature, transforming into a raging torrent -
A sudden, violent and copious outpouring of temptation laid on insufferably thick.
Our friendly subtleties quickly came to be intoxicating affection; all changes warranted – And before I could gasp for my breath, he took it away again with another kiss.

I’m still not sure where you came from, or if you’re destined to stick around,
But I knew it was possible to see forever in your eyes the moment our love stopped time.
Your whole being and aura – you have a way about you that’s addictive, I’ve found -
I can’t help but to anticipate littering your skin with these carnal, fleshy kisses of mine.

I spend most of my days in a complete and utter haze

I never seem to leave this sleep state at wake -

But I knew it was possible to see forever in your eyes the moment our love stopped time.
